'The Lion King' blows past expectations

Another huge hit for Disney has grossed more than expectations days after premiere.

Disney's reboot ‘The Lion King' has grossed more than expectations a few days after release.

The reboot of the studio's 1994 animated classic gained over USD 530 million worldwide in the domestic and international rollout.

While projections suggested that the film would gross around USD 150 million for its domestic opening, the title ruled with big box office opening of over USD 185 million.

The flick becomes one of the highest-grossing opening ever and despite mixed reviews, the title won the weekend with huge takings.

"'The Lion King' had a perfect release date, great marketing and above all boasts iconic characters that have resonated with audiences around the world for over two decades," Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst, said.

The reboot by Jon Favreau brings to life the animals in the original standing apart with photo realistic visual effects for a nature doc look.
